Combing operations: Law enforcement agencies told to enhance coordination

Chaudhry Nisar hands out cash awards and commendation certificates to top officers

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday directed members of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police and law enforcing agencies to ensure greater coordination to improve results of the combing operations.

He also rewarded five officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and six police officers of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) for their ‘outstanding performance’ during the year.

Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Thursday, Nisar further directed that every arrest made by police should be followed by proper prosecution in respective courts of law to bring the criminals to justice.

Awards

FIA’s Lahore Director Dr Usman Anwar and SP Investigation Capt (retired) Ilyas were declared as the top officers for the year who were given cash rewards of Rs300,000.

Other FIA officials  who were awarded included FIA Sindh Zone  Inspector Abdul Rauf, FIA Balochistan SI Rasheed Mehmood, FIA Punjab Zone SI  Mohsin Butt and  FIA Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Zone Wajid Ali.

Officers and officials of ICT Police who were also awarded included SI Abdul Razzaq, ASI  Tauseef Ahmed, ASI  Saleem Raza, ASI Muhammad Ashraf and Constable, Yasir Mehmood.

These officials were given cash awards of Rs100,000 along with commendation certificates.

Talking to the officers, the interior minister commended their performance and observed that the award was a token of recognition for their services to the people. He observed that the awards should further motivate them and should also inspire their colleagues to improve their performance and earn similar recognition.

Performance review

During the high-level meeting, FIA briefed Nisar on progress made during a country-wide campaign against proclaimed offenders.

Officials said that over 500 proclaimed offenders, wanted in various cases, had been arrested by FIA. Moreover, officials said that 1,139 passports had been blacklisted while 872 CNICs of proclaimed offenders had been blocked.

FIA Islamabad director said that in their campaign against human traffickers and illegal travel agents, not even a single person was deported owing to forged documents.

ICT Police also gave a detailed presentation along with comparative analysis of law and order situation in the federal capital. Nisar, while noting there was significant reduction in crime rate, much more needed to done to make the capital crime-free.

Traffic congestion

Taking note of continued traffic congestion on various roads of the federal capital, Nisar gave Islamabad Traffic Police 24 hours to come up with a comprehensive strategy to overcome traffic logjams in the capital, especially during office and school hours.
