New role: Population Association elects 9th president

LAHORE: The Population Association of Pakistan (PAP) has elected Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Chairman Prof Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin as its executive council president for a one-year term for 2017-2018.

The 9th such election was organised at the 17th Annual Population Conference on ‘Investing in Family Planning for Sustainable Development Goals 1-6’ held at IBA, Karachi. Dr Nizam has served as the vice-chancellor of the University of Gujrat and the Government College for Women University in Sialkot.

In 2014, he was awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz for his contribution towards the development of higher education in Pakistan. After his election, Dr Nizam thanked the PAP executive council for giving him the opportunity to serve the cause of population planning. He also appreciated PAP’s efforts for highlighting population issues in Pakistan by generating evidence-based research for the impact of rapid population growth on all development indicators.
