Paying tribute: Ghakkar Plaza fire martyrs remembered
A ceremony was hosted to pay homage to the 13 firefighters who lost their lives in the deadly Ghakkar Plaza fire

The Punjab Emergency Services Department aka Rescue 1122 organised a ceremony to pay homage to the 13 firefighters who lost their lives in the deadly Ghakkar Plaza fire on December 20, 2008. Four of the 13 victims were from Rescue 1122. Rescue 1122 Director-General Rizwan Nasser paid tribute to the martyrs, saying this day would be remembered as the 9/11 for firefighters in Pakistan. “We will remember the great sacrifices of our heroes and cannot lose more precious lives just for the lack of fire safety standards in high-rise buildings,” he said.
