Transporters raise fares by 50% in Rajanpur

RAJANPUR: Transporters increased the fares by 50% after an increase of 4.5% in the prices of diesel creating hardship to the people in Rajanpur. While speaking to The Express Tribune on Monday, citizens complained the fare from Rajanpur to Mithankot was Rs20 till November 30. However, the fare had been increased up to Rs30 from December 1 .

The same is from Rajanpur to Fazilpur. A commuter Murtaza said, “In case we do not give the increased fare, the transport workers fight with the passengers.”

He said that transporters harass commuters and misbehave with them while demanding illegal hike in fare. Citizens demanded the government to take notice of the issue and enforce justified fares. They said that the recent fuel price rise would result in inflation across the board, which would hurt ordinary working class citizens. He said labourers should be given travel subsidies, like students. On the other hand transporters said that they were not demanding unjust fare as the price of diesel had increased.
