Politicians should give priority to national issues: Punjab governor

Urges graduates to utilise their knowledge to serve deprived people

FAISALABAD: Politicians should give top priority to national issues for the rapid development and progress of the country.

This was said by Punjab Governor Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana on Monday. He was addressing the participants of the Government College University’s 7th Convocation which was held at New Campus, Jhang Road, Faisalabad.

Rafiq Rajwana emphasised upon the degree holders to utilise their skills and knowledge for serving the deprived people and to pay back their country by working hard in different fields.

He said Pakistan was not short of resources and capabilities but there was a need to utilise them.  He said provision of social justice was the prime responsibility of the government and the present government was making effective measures to provide facilities of education, health, clean drinking water and others to the people.

The governor congratulated the successful students and their parents and said the future of the country was in the hands of educated youngsters and the responsibility of the youngsters had been increased manifold to serve the country.

On the occasion, the he greeted the GC University Vice-Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali and his team for rapid development of the varsity. He pointed out the university was a blessing for the students.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the VC thanked the governor for participating in the convocation as chief guest and highlighted the performance of the University.

While sharing details of the varsity’s development projects, Ali said two academic blocks and two girls hostels had been completed at a cost of Rs800 million while the federal government had provided funds of Rs780 million for research projects.

He maintained Rs300 million had been allocated as pension funds for the employees while Rs65 million had been earmarked as endowment funds for providing scholarships to the deserving students. He said the entire electric system of the new campus had been linked with solar system.

The vice-chancellor said all admissions were being processed through online system in the university.

He also gave details of university linkages with industrial sectors and other activities for promoting tolerance and interfaith harmony.

Meanwhile, the governor also inaugurated the newly constructed girls hostel.
