Turkey honours Allama Iqbal for services to Islam
Grandson says being awarded in Rumi's Konya is a great honour for Iqbal's spirit and family

Turkey has honoured Allama Iqbal for his “services to Islam”.
Turkish Minister for Culture and Tourism Nabi Avci presented the 'Dost Award' to Allama Iqbal's grandson, Walid Iqbal at a ceremony in Konya, Turkey.
The ceremony in Konya was attended by Ambassador for Pakistan in Turkey, Sohail Mahmood, Turkish Culture Minister, Governor of Konya Region and Mayor of Konya among others, according to Radio Pakistan.
“Through this award, we honour late Muhammad Iqbal for his contributions to the cause of Muslim political thought, which still inspires people in the entire world,” the minister said addressing the gathering.
Congratulating Walid Iqbal, Pakistan’s Ambassador Sohail Mahmood emphasised the deep love and respect Turkish people have for Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Further, he said that Iqbal and his teachings are a part of the lasting bonds between Turkey and Pakistan.
“Being awarded in Rumi's Konya is a great honour for Iqbal's spirit, for his family, and for the people of Pakistan,” Walid Iqbal said in his acceptance speech.
