PESHAWAR: Appointment letters were handed over on Saturday to as many as 94 employees inducted in the Peshawar District Education Office against quota-based seats.

The appointment letters were handed over to heirs of retired and deceased workers, persons belonging to minority communities and also with disabilities by District Education Officer (DEO-Male) and provincial assembly lawmakers from Peshawar district. The seats had been vacant since 1992.

Applications for appointments against these posts had been pending because of political interference.

DEO-Male, Peshawar, Roze Wali Khan told The Express Tribune that a committee had been formed to fill the vacant posts, adding that the quota for disabled persons was 2%, minorities 3%, 25% for retired employees and 100% for deceased workers. “Local lawmakers have helped in the selection process,” he said.

Criticising the inordinate delay, PTI’s MPA Shaukat Yousafzai said that it had been caused by political interference. According to him, previous governments wanted to fill these posts with their own people while the PTI government had given due rights to the deprived people.
