Directive issued: Jammu & Kashmir refugees to get proprietary rights

Sources said that Punjab CM Shahbaz has accorded formal approval for the grant of proprietary right in land

MIRPUR: The government of Punjab has principally decided to grant proprietary rights of the properties temporally allotted to the Jammu and Kashmir refugees settled in the Rawalpindi and Gujranwala divisions.

According to official sources, the Settlement and Rehabilitation Wing of the Board of Revenue Punjab has directed the commissioners of Gujranwala and Rawalpindi Divisions where a huge number of the Kashmiri refugees were settled to complete the process by December 31.

Sources said that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz has accorded formal approval for the grant of proprietary right in land temporarily allotted to the refugees of Jammu and Kashmir settled in Rawalpindi and Gujranwala divisions under section (3) of the Evacuee Property and Displaced Persons Laws (Repeal) Act 1975.

"In pursuance of the approval accorded by the chief minister of Punjab, the Settlement and Rehabilitation Wing of Board of Revenue Punjab has decided to confer proprietary rights upon the non-claimant Jammu & Kashmir refugees who had earlier been temporarily allotted evacuee land for maintenance purpose", the sources quoted the directive circulated by the Board of Revenue Punjab to the commissioners as well as the DCOs, district collectors of Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin and Narowal.
