Enraged ‘Lover’: Man shoots woman, commits suicide

A young man shot dead a young woman in District Badin and committed suicide on Thursday. The incident took place in the outpatient department of Civil Hospital, Badin, where the slain woman was undergoing training of midwifery. The woman was identified as 22-year-old Qamrunissa Chandio. Chandio and her suspected killer, Imtiaz Ali Laghari, belonged to the Ghulam Shah Mori village in Tando Bago Taluka. He allegedly took his own life right after killing the woman. “The man called the woman from the outpatient department [of Civil hospital] and after talking to her for some time, took out a pistol and shot her and subsequently shot himself dead,” said Model SHO Ibrahim Jatoi. According to him, the deceased woman’s family informed the police that Imtiaz wanted to marry Chandio but she reportedly kept refusing his marriage proposal. The bodies were handed over to the families after completion of medico-legal formalities. A case has yet to be registered.
