ISLAMABAD: Egypt and Bahrain heaped praise on Pakistan for its efforts towards the elimination of terrorism during bilateral meetings held on the sidelines of the Manama Dialogue.

The Bahraini foreign minister, in a meeting with the adviser to the prime minister on foreign affairs, appreciated Pakistan’s success in counter-terrorism. He said the gains made by Pakistan have reversed the cataclysmic trend of terrorism and extremism in the world.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz was in Bahrain to attend the Manama dialogue, according to a press release.

During the meeting with the Bahraini delegation, the two sides agreed to take bilateral cooperation in the economic and trade sectors to a new level by holding the Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) meeting next month. Bahraini Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmad bin Mohammad al Khalifa will visit Pakistan as the head of a delegation on January 30-31 to hold the inaugural JMC.

The minister also said that he was looking forward to his upcoming visit to Pakistan as an opportunity to lay the foundation of robust economic and trade relations between the two countries.

The two sides also discussed the situation in the Middle East, focusing particularly on Yemen and Syria. The adviser also told the minister about the situation in Afghanistan and South Asia.

Meanwhile, Aziz also met the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.

During the meeting, it was decided that a joint ministerial committee meeting would be held at an early date in Islamabad.
