SHABQADAR: A manhunt has been launched for suspects involved in a roadside blast that targeted a two-vehicle FC security convoy and left an FC subedar injured.

A police official said the blast occurred near Dhando Pul on the main Mohmand-Shabqadar road as the convoy was travelling to Peshawar from Mohmand Agency.

A police official said an improvised explosive device had been planted along the road. FC Subedar Najab Ali was injured in the blast which left one security vehicle partially damaged.

The injured official was taken to a Peshawar hospital, where his condition is said to be stable. Subsequently, a search operation was launched after the area was cordoned off by FC and police personnel, effectively closing the main Mohmand-Shabqadar road.

DSP Shabqadar circle Muhammad Fayaz maintained that at least 24 suspects had been rounded up during the search operation in Sro Kali and nearby areas and five Kalashnikovs and ammunition were recovered from their possession.

The area bordering Mohmand and Charsadda, considered to be a stronghold of militants, was cleared of terrorist elements in a military operation that was conducted in 2008. Combing operations were held as recently as last month (November) to clear the area of militants and their facilitators.
