Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief selector Inzamamul Haq on Saturday said for the national team’s upcoming tour of Australia, senior batsman Younus Khan’s performance is necessary.

Talking to the media at National Stadium in Karachi, Inzamam said that even though Pakistan performed well in their tour match, for continued success, Younus’ performance is a must. “Pakistan played well against Cricket Australia XI, but we need a decent performance from Younus in order to succeed in the Test series,” he said.

A veteran of 112 Tests, Younus is Pakistan’s highest run scorer in the five-day format of the game. However, the 39-year-old could only muster 16 runs from four innings during Pakistan’s two-match Test series against New Zealand.

Meanwhile, the chief selector also said that Test captain Misbahul Haq has to decide for himself when to hang up his boots. “The decision of when to quit the captaincy will solely be Misbah’s and he has to choose when he would do so.” he said.

Furthermore, Inzamam said that Pakistan 2-0 loss to New Zealand was due to lack of practice match in the previous tour.

The former captain also added that wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal’s domestic performance has made him a contender for the national team, given that the side requires someone of his skillset.
