RAWALPINDI:
At least 36 convicts doing time in the Adiala Jail are likely to go home next week after being set free two months early on the occasion of Eid Miladun Nabi.

The government of Punjab has granted a two-month remission to all prisoners in the province, except for terrorists and those those convicted of heinous crimes such as rape and homicide, jail officials said while quoting a home department circular.

Following the directives, the Adiala Jail authorities reduced the sentence of prisoners, 36 of whom would be released as the terms of their prison sentences would stand fulfilled with the latest relief, officials said.

“A prisoner has already been set free,” a prison officer said. Apparently, the inmate was supposed to complete his sentence after two months, however, the latest remission proved to be a get-out-of-jail free card.

Prisoners usually get remissions on special occasions including every Eid, Independence Day, and Pakistan Day.
