Both Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and the PTI candidate had filed their candidatures for the office of Lahore’s mayor, with the election slated to be held on December 22, 2016.
Questionable qualification: Verdict reserved on plea against Lahore’s likely mayor
Col Mubashir was elected to the Metropolitan Corporation of Lahore (MCL) on a reserved seat for technocrats, and was little known among party members before his victory today. PML-N has 228 seats in MCL out of a total 274, while PTI only has 10. He was selected by the premier himself for the post of city’s mayor.
Election ahead: Colonel (retd) Mubashir Javaid nominated for mayor’s slot
Earlier, Khawaja Ahmad Hassan – vice chairman of Lahore Development Authority and head of several other governmental committees – was considered a potential candidate for the post.
