Pakistan start Australia tour with victory against CA XI
Misbahul Haq’s men win by 210 runs in three-day tour match
Misbahul Haq-led Pakistan side on Saturday beat CA XI by 210 runs in the only day-night tour match at Cairns.
CA XI, who were set a target of 311 runs to chase by Pakistan, were all out for 109 courtesy left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz’s three wickets. Arjun Nair was the top-scorer for CA XI with 42 off 60 balls. Apart from Nawaz’s three-for, pacers Mohammad Amir and Rahat Ali also bagged two wickets apiece.
Earlier, Pakistan opted to bat in the three-day match and scored 208 runs thanks to Younus Khan’s 54 off 138 balls.
In their reply, CA XI were all out for 114 when Pakistani pacers Amir, Rahat and Wahab Riaz all accounted for three batsmen each.
Pakistan, with a substantial lead in the bag, came out to bat in the second innings, and riding on the back of Azhar Ali’s unbeaten 82 off 209 balls, set a difficult target for CA XI to chase.
Pakistan will now take on Australia in the first of the three-Test series on December 15. The first match will be a day-night affair in Gabba, Brisbane.
