Post-crash motion: PPP calls for air safety measures

The movers of the motion said it is time to start a thoughtful and immediate introspection

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Friday filed an adjournment motion with the National Assembly Secretariat under Rule 110 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business, seeking a debate on this week’s tragic air crash.

The motion, signed by five prominent MNAs of the PPP, says: “The tragic incident reveals the poor state of affairs in the national airline. Initial reports suggest that the incident occurred due to lack of proper air safety measures.

“This is sheer negligence on the part of the federal government. It’s not the first accident of its kind, but till date no concrete air safety strategy has been devised by the stakeholders to avoid such dreadful and unbearable [incidents].”

The movers of the motion said it is time to start a thoughtful and immediate introspection on the state of airline safety in Pakistan.

“This is a serious issue and requires immediate discussion on the floor of the house,” the motion added.

Imran | 7 years ago | Reply This is no doubt a positive move and please keep it up. What we need is a safety culture. The safety culture starts from SCHOOL. That too before grade 1... That will bring a safety sense in the upcoming nation & we will see in the next 20 yrs how the same kids growing up in schools today can bring the change. Safety culture in air, rail & road safety is extreamly important. Not only that, it is important in building safety after and before a building or any structure is made. Pre design & after its functional, safety monitoring and monitoring the trend is even more important. For example, if we say that an airline has very few crashes and the owners start to explain their safety records by the number of few crashes they had, wouldnt make any scense if they only have a few airplanes compared to an operater that has 400 aircrafts and similar amount of accidents. So safety trends - where we heading is extreamly important to know. I personaly belive that if a safety trend of an airline is dropping like a rock, the regulator (caa) should not be waiting for a crash to take action. This means our regulator is also REACTIVE. Too bad unfortunately. May Allah bless the PK661 victims with jannah & rank them shuhadah...Ameen.
