Ex-information minister terms PTI's rejection of judicial commission contempt of court

In stern criticism of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Friday, PML-N leader Pervaiz Rashid said they wouldn't even spare the former a worn out Sherwani button of the premier, let alone his resignation.

"Imran Khan himself had called for formation of the commission but has rejected the same when the apex court asked about it," former information minister Pervaiz Rashid told a press conference in Islamabad.

Hours after the Supreme Court hearing on Panama Papers, Imran said there was no need to form a commission to probe the revelations. The apex court has adjourned the case till January next year.



The leaks revealed that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's children were among influential people from around the world who had stashed money in offshore companies.

During the hearing, PTI announced to boycott the commission if one was formed to probe the case. The party reiterated that the existing bench should hear the case on day-to-day basis.

Rashid said Imran's stance was tantamount to contempt of the apex court, claiming the latter had not been able to present any kind of witness, document or tangible evidence to establish his point.

The legal team of the Sharif family, on the other hand, said it was in favour of the formation of a commission.
