Facebook testing feature turning comment threads into Messenger-like group chats

Facebook comments often turn into entire conversations, making it hard for many to keep up.

To facilitate users, Facebook has been testing a feature that converts conversations into chat rooms. Back in November, some users started seeing a feature on their newsfeed that opened like a chat window notifying them of comments on their posts. Speaking to Tech Crunch, Facebook confirmed that it had indeed been testing the feature.



“We’ve heard from people that they would like an easier way to participate in conversations on a post while they are still in News Feed so we are testing a new option that opens up a window when someone comments on your post, replies to your comment or tags you in a comment. You can always hide the conversation or turn off notifications from within the drop down menu of the post," Facebook stated.

Though the feature brings an extra element of convenience, active commenters may end up grappling with scores of remarks. Whether the chat window is just for one's posts or those you’ve commented on remains to be seen.

For now, the only thing that seems certain is that Facebook has been revamping how it works.
