New York police officials said on Tuesday that Faisal Shahzad fits the profile of homegrown terrorists.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said the Times Square threat is a classic case of homegrown terrorism. Kelly said Faisal Shahzad still hasn't appeared in court because he is continuing to provide information in an ongoing investigation.
The officials said Faisal Shahzad and other suspects like Najibullah Zazi — the admitted leader of a plot to bomb the New York subway system — have roots in middle-class society.
Prosecutors allege Shahzad claimed he received bomb-making training during a recent trip to Waziristan.
