Wealth tax default: Jahangir Tareen told to reply by Dec 16

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has sought a rejoinder from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Jahangir Tareen on the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reply to his petition against the recovery of wealth tax.

On Thursday, Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza sought the reply by December 16 from the opposition leader.

The FBR counsel had claimed the business tycoon was a defaulter of Rs420 million in wealth tax and the petition should be dismissed in accordance with law.

The political leader had claimed victimisation on political grounds as he belonged to an opposition party and was playing active role in demanding an investigation into Panama leaks.

He contended the FBR issued the notice illegally for recovering Rs130 million in wealth tax. Jahangir said the FBR had no power to recover wealth tax and requested the court to set aside the FBR notice.
