Pakistan call up Mohammad Asghar as back up for Yasir Shah against Australia

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has called up left-arm spinner Mohammad Asghar as back up for injured leggie Yasir Shah for the three-match Test series against Australia.

Asghar, who rose to fame in the inaugural Pakistan Super League edition playing for Peshawar Zalmi, has played 17 first-class matches claiming 68 wickets at an average of 26.61.

Yasir injures back, ruled out of tour match

According to Pakistan team’s media director Amjad Bhatti, Asghar has only been called as a precaution. “We have called up Asghar as a back up to side,” he said. “We are confident that Yasir will recover by the time of the first Test.”

Yasir was ruled out of Pakistan’s ongoing three-day tour match against Cricket Australia XI after injuring his back during a training session at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns, Australia.

Australia remain unchanged for day-night Test against Pakistan

Pakistan will play three Tests and five ODIs during their ongoing tour of Australia which begins with a day-night Test in Brisbane on December 15.
