LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has called up left-arm spinner Mohammad Asghar as back up for injured leggie Yasir Shah for the three-match Test series against Australia.
Asghar, who rose to fame in the inaugural Pakistan Super League edition playing for Peshawar Zalmi, has played 17 first-class matches claiming 68 wickets at an average of 26.61.
According to Pakistan team’s media director Amjad Bhatti, Asghar has only been called as a precaution. “We have called up Asghar as a back up to side,” he said. “We are confident that Yasir will recover by the time of the first Test.”
Yasir was ruled out of Pakistan’s ongoing three-day tour match against Cricket Australia XI after injuring his back during a training session at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns, Australia.
Pakistan will play three Tests and five ODIs during their ongoing tour of Australia which begins with a day-night Test in Brisbane on December 15.
