Officials shared the information with Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan during a meeting on Tuesday. According to official data, some 3,630 aliens had voluntarily returned their ID cards.
Nisar orders re-verification of CNICs of all Pakistani citizens
More than 66,000 intruders had so far been identified as a result of 14 million SMS sent by NADRA to family heads across Pakistan.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress of the drive, the minister directed NADRA to devise a permanent and ongoing mechanism for re-verifying CNICs, denying anyone the possibility to possess Pakistani identity documents through illegal means.
Urging the directorate-general of Immigration and Passports to remove flaws in online passport processing system, Chaudhry Nisar directed the directorate and NADRA to dispatch teams for facilitating expatriates in countries with a higher number of Pakistani citizens.
“We need better public facilities coupled with improved service delivery,” the minister was quoted as saying by spokesperson for the interior ministry.
The minister also ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for devising a comprehensive strategy for arresting proclaimed offenders.
Earlier, the minister was briefed that FIA arrested 439 proclaimed offenders while the ICT Police arrested more than 3,000 proclaimed offenders wanted in various crimes.
Appreciating the efforts of official concerned for the successes in the drive against proclaimed offenders, the minister said that the FIA, ICT police and NADRA should all work in close coordination and find ways to blocking proclaimed offenders’ CNICs, ensuring their prompt arrests.
The interior minister also ordered the ICT administration taking stern action against people who were involved in food adulteration, as well as professional beggars.
Nisar sets six-month deadline to re-verify all CNICs
The meeting was held to review the performance of departments attached with the interior ministry.
Among others, the meeting was attended by the Special Secretary Interior, the NADRA chief, the director-general of immigration and passports, inspector-general of police Islamabad, DC Islamabad and senior officers from FIA and the interior ministry.
ICT police also briefed the minister over the law and order situation in the federal capital.
The minister was informed that the deadline for 73 new passport offices was February next year and by then, every district will have a passport office.
