NEW DELHI: Anushka Sharma believes that some men are unable to adjust to the fact that today’s women are no longer dependent upon anyone. Speaking about the growing divorce rate in India, Sharma said that while some people are able to adjust with changing times, others have a problem doing so, which, ultimately, leads to clashes and divorce.
“I might be totally wrong but I believe that women today are changing and at least some men are unable to adjust with that probably,” said the Sultan star at an event on Tuesday.
“Today, women are changing, their thinking pattern and beliefs are changing. Today, the equation that once existed between a man and a woman is not the same. It is changing because women are becoming financially independent. It is no longer about getting a roof over your head.”
Sharma also spoke about how the media treats male and female actors differently. According to her, the latter have always been good performers. “I think we’ve always been very good performers. Female actors should be hyped more,” she added.
Having featured in films like NH10, PK and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Sharma also shared that she believes song and dance sequences in Indian films are necessary but the focus, as of now, is on content. “Being a good dancer or having a six pack is superficial. In our country, the music song and dance is necessary but right now, a lot of focus is being given to the content of the film,” said the actor. “At the end of the day, it is all business. Lately, films have been doing well even if they are small or big. The stories of these films are very good and different. There are some amazing stories.”
According to Sharma, this change in cinema can be attributed to the changing thought process of its audience. “We can say that it is because of the audiences advancement and the changing thought process that has brought change in cinema right now. Audiences are expecting something more and not just the music, song and dance,” she added.
