Bold resistance: Two sent to jail for knifing woman in botched robbery

Police also looking for third suspect who fled the crime scene

A magistrate on Monday sent two men arrested by the Sadiqabad police for injuring a woman during an attempted bag-snatching to Adiala jail on judicial remand for 14 days.

The police produced accused Farid and Sharif before the court of the area magistrate. The police asked the court to send the accused to Adiala jail as they were arrested on the spot. Talking to The Express Tribune, Sadiqabad SHO Yasir Rabbani said that three men tried to snatch the handbag of Memoona Tabasum at about 11:00pm on Sunday night. The arrested men are suspected to be two of the three would-be purse snatchers.

He shared that the man sitting in the middle put his hand on the bag but the woman resisted. She pulled her bag to herself and the man sitting in the middle and the one riding pillion fell from the motorcycle. One of the accused attacked Memoona with a knife and wounded her hand as she resisted. The woman screamed for help and local people gathered and overpowered the two suspects, while the third fled.

The SHO said that the victim was not seriously wounded and was out of danger.

Responding to a question on identification of the arrested suspects, the SHO noted that both had come from Karachi few days ago and had been living nearby in Bihari Colony. He said that the police were making efforts to arrest the third culprit.
