KARACHI:
Off-spin legend Saqlain Mushtaq had signed a contract to assist English spinners, Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid, during the three-match ODI series against India.
Saqlain, who also helped Moeen and Adil during the first two Tests of the ongoing five-match series, will be sharing his expertise with the English off-spinner and leg-spinner in the 50-over format starting from January 15.
Adil (18) and Moeen (seven) are the top wicket-takers on the English bowling chart after the first three Tests against India. Meanwhile, India’s top bowler Ravi Ashwin has 15 scalps to his name.
“The experience of coaching English players in India has been a pleasant one,” Saqlain, who is currently in Islamabad, told The Daily Express. “Adil and Moeen are eager to learn and that is why they are delivering improved performances. I hope they will improve further.”
‘Ready to serve Pakistan cricket any given day’
The 39-year-old believes he owes a lot to Pakistan and wants to give back as much as possible to the cricket of the country.
“I help spinners across the globe but my heart still beats for Pakistan,” said Saqlain. “This country has given me a lot and I want to give all of it back. I am ready to offer my services to the Pakistan Cricket Board whenever they need me.”
He continued: “Director Academies Mudassar Nazar met me a few days ago and said he wanted to benefit from my services but then there was no follow up. I work as an analyst for television but coaching is my real passion. Whenever I receive a good offer, I will accept it.”
