At the event, Elia’s daughter Sohaina Elia and renowned playwright Asghar Nadeem Syed paid tribute to the poet.
Syed recalled the literary services of Elia and eulogised him.
Recalling the life of her father Sohaina said the poet was fluent in Urdu, Arabic, Persian, English, Sanskrit and Hebrew. She also read out some of Elia’s works.
Lok Virsa Executive Director Dr Fouzia Saeed said the organisation had arranged the event to pay tribute to the poet for his writing which brought forth his truth. Elia, who died in 2002, was awarded the Pride of Performance award by the Government of Pakistan in 2000 for his services to Urdu literature.
