Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan cancelled on Sunday parliamentarian Ali Raza Abidi's basic party membership for "breaching the party policy adopted after August 22".

“Ali Raza has been expelled from the party for continuously breaching the policy after August 22, despite warnings,” a party statement said.

Sources said the decision was taken after Abidi, an MNA from NA-251 Karachi, was found to have been in touch with party's pro-Altaf Hussain faction based in London.

Abidi has also been asked to resign from his National Assembly seat, added the statement.

MQM-P completely cut off ties with Altaf following his August 22 anti-Pakistan speech.
