ISLAMABAD: Iran is eagerly awaiting a delegation of oil and gas experts from Pakistan to discuss cooperation in areas of mutual interest in the energy sector.

Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Mashaalah Shakeri stated this during a meeting with Federal Petroleum and Natural Resources Minister Syed Naveed Qamar here on Tuesday. They discussed the progress made recently on matters pertaining to bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, particularly oil and gas imports by Pakistan.

Shakeri said that the visit of experts was a follow-up to the progress made at a meeting between Qamar and the Iranian deputy foreign minister earlier this month. Qamar said that supplies from Iran were necessary to meet the country’s energy needs. “The upcoming landmark gas pipeline project will further foster existing bonds between the two countries,” he added. Qamar said that he had issued instructions to form a best team of experts for the visit to Iran which should be ready not later than July this year.
