Siddiqui, 79, had replaced Dr Ishratul Ebad on Nov 9 as the new ceremonial head of the province. However, he fell ill soon after taking oath and has not been able to resume his duties till now.
There are a number of names that have been discussed in the prime minister’s meetings with his close aides. But sources in the PM House claim that Senator Mushahidullah is likely to be chosen.
Governor Siddiqi has been hospitalised since his appointment and has rarely attended his office. Sources claim that his health condition will not permit him to play any active role even if he resumes his official duties. The new governor may be appointed in January 2017.
