KARACHI: Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has issued on Friday show-cause notices to the secretary of the food department and 16 other officers for their failure to turn up for duty on time.

"I believe in punctuality. If officers cannot reach work by 9:30am, they need to sit home instead," said Shah, while paying a surprise visit to the New Sindh Secretariat Friday morning. He went from floor to floor and found that most of the officers, including the food secretary, were absent.

Taking serious notice of the absence of food secretary Sajjad Abbasi, Shah directed his principal secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch to issue an explanation.

"This is unacceptable. If the head of a department cannot reach office on time, how are his subordinates expected to do so?" he questioned.

He also took notice of some 16 senior officers of different departments who were also absent, directing their concerned secretaries to issue them show-cause notices.

"This is the last chance I am giving to these lethargic officers," he warned, adding that he will put the services of the absentees on suspension.
