If you were fond of reading Archie comics as a child, CW’s new series Riverdale is certainly for you. But forget what you already know because according to The Huffington Post, almost nothing is the same in the show, which is inspired by the classic comic books.

In a new preview for the show — which is roughly 100 times darker than the original stories — fans get a first look at the main character (Archie Andrews, played by KJ Apa) and his two love interests Veronica (Camila Mendes) and Betty (Lili Reinhart). Suite Life of Zach and Cody star Cody Sprouse plays Jughead. It was reported earlier this year that Shannon Purser – who plays Barb in Stranger Things – would appear on the series but she is not in the trailer.

Somehow the gang gets caught up in a murder, as evidenced by the crime scene tape, body bag, bloody hands, bag of cash, flashing sirens and police officers seen in the promo, which was shared exclusively by Entertainment Weekly.

“It’s definitely Archie but a little darker, a little more complex and a little weirder than you might remember from the digest you bought at the supermarket,” executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said in an interview in July. “We’re saying it’s a little bit like Archie meets Twin Peaks.”
