Four involved in stage actor Kismat Baig's murder held

Those arrested include former husband of actor

The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) claimed on Friday to have arrested four suspects allegedly involved in the murder of theatre actor Kismat Baig.

Police said they had confessed to killing Baig.  The CIA arrested Baig's ex-husband Rana Muzzamil a couple of days ago. On his identification, Rana Faheem, Rana Tajamul and Shahi Janjua were arrested from Gujranwala. According to sources, the three men said that they had been instructed by Muzzamil to kill Baig.

Baig was shot on November 23 in Lahore. She succumbed to her injuries a day later. The actress was travelling with her guard when unidentified assailants opened fire at her car in Harbanspura. Baig received eight bullets while her guard received one. She was then taken to Services Hospital.

On November 30, Lahore Police ordered actors Nargis, Naseem Vicky, Afreen and producer Ali Raza to not leave the city till the investigation into Kismat Baig’s murder had been completed.  The theatre artists were among 40 other people interrogated in connection with the case.

On November 26, renowned folk singer Darwesh Khan of Swabi was killed by unidentified armed men on Bamkhel Road. Earlier, another stage actor Hassan Khan was tortured by suspects in Gulberg. A case was registered against unidentified suspects following his brother’s complaint.

In September, a television host of local news channel Abb Takk was allegedly poisoned by a ‘fan’. Khufia host Sana Faisal was allegedly approached by a ‘fan’ in Karachi who asked her for a selfie and an autograph. The 'fan' had reportedly given Sana ice cream laced with poison.
