KARACHI: The roads under the new Gizri flyover must be completed as soon as possible, said Defence Housing Authority’s (DHA) Administrator Brigadier Khalid Tirmizi on an inspection tour.

The Sindh High Court had ordered DHA to construct the damaged roads under the bridge within two months of the opening of the flyover. The flyover was opened for general traffic on Jan 14, after the stay order by the High Court was lifted. However, the construction of roads was inordinately delayed because of technical snags involving the shifting of water pipelines, electric cables and the sewerage lines network. The court later extended the date for the completion of the roads to May 30.

The administrator was informed that the shifting of the water pipelines and sewerage system without disrupting services to the residents would be complicated. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) engineer said that shifting of the water and sewerage lines from the site was in its final stages and the entire work was expected to be completed in a week.

The construction of roads will commence soon after shifting the underground services lines. Brig Tirmizi directed the consultant and contractor of the project to ensure that the projected is completed in the given time, keeping in view the court’s orders and the difficulties being faced by the residents.
