Kismat Baig murder: Nargis, Naseem Vicky questioned by police
Actors amongst 40 people instructed to stay in Lahore until investigation is complete
LAHORE:
Lahore Police has instructed actors Nargis, Naseem Vicky, Afreen and producer Ali Raza to not leave the city until the investigation of Kismat Baig’s murder case has been completed. The theatre artists are among 40 other people who have been heavily interrogated and asked not to leave Lahore, including Kismat’s family and her sister, Sitara, in particular.
“Mahnoor, Naseem, Afreen and Nargis have been brought into questioning because Sitara advised the police to do so. We are investigating all those who were near and dear to Kismat, which includes nearly 40 individuals but these names have been mentioned by Sitara specifically,” shared a senior police official seeking anonymity. “However, we are yet to find any solid evidence against the persons.”
According to the source, intelligence officers have been deployed to theatres across Lahore so as to gather information regarding Kismat’s last few days. “It was traced through mobile data that the late actor had quarreled with Mahnoor shortly before her murder. The day after the incident, the police and Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) interrogated Mahnoor briefly and then allowed her to return home,” added the official. “We are also making efforts to arrest Raza Muzzamil, Kismat’s former husband.”
At the other end of the spectrum is the Capital City Police Office (CCPO) which claims there has been no development in the case. However, sources told The Express Tribune that the CIA has arrested the alleged culprits and the motive of killing was professional jealousy. They added that CCPO will present the culprits to the media in a couple of days.
Baig, one of Lahore’s most sought-after stage dancers, was shot eight times on her way home in Harbanspura, after a performance at Tamasil Theatre last week. Her secretary and guard Ali Raza was also injured in the incident. Baig was rushed to the hospital and died while under treatment.
