MUMBAI: Actor Vaani Kapoor finds award functions rehearsed and does not like the energy there. In a recent interview, the Befikre actor —  who made her film debut with Shuddh Desi Romance — opened up on award functions, her relationship rules and acting career.

“I don’t like the energy at award shows. It’s rehearsed and everybody is just focused on themselves. Nobody wants to genuinely applaud for anyone else. People are not even listening if someone is giving a speech on stage,” said Vaani.

Talking about her role in Shuddh Desi Romance, which also featured actors Sushant Singh Rajput and Parineeti Chopra, Vaani said she was told that her role would be a parallel lead. “I was never told it was a second lead. I was told it’s a parallel lead but I was in one-fourth of the film. It’s not the movie you want to begin with but it was the best I had at that point of time. And it was Yash Raj Films so I knew I was in safe hands.”

While the film was not her dream debut, Vaani shared she doesn’t regret doing it as this was what helped her bag a role in the upcoming Befikre. “I’ll be honest: Aditya Chopra noticed my work in Shuddh Desi Romance and that’s how I got Befikre,” she said.

The film will hit the screens on December 9, three years after Vaani’s debut. Stating the wait is frustrating, the actor added, “I wish Befikre had happened earlier. I was living alone, with no family and friends. When you feel low and down, you don’t know whom to talk to and go out with. I didn’t have anyone I could depend on that way.”

Talking about her personal life, Vaani mentioned that she does not believe in “casual dating” and would rather be in a proper relationship. “In Mumbai, I don’t know many people. I only know colleagues and I’m wary of dating actors. Loyalty is very important to me,” the 28-year-old said.

However, she is not one to hold back when it comes to acting and wants the best of everything. “I want to be part of the finest movies that are being made and to work with the best directors. Otherwise, I will just pack up and leave. I am open to starting all over again,” stated Vaani.

“Right now, my ambition is to have a home of my own in Mumbai, to do things for my family and give back. They have done a lot for me. I don’t want to end up being dependent on anyone. Even if I’m here for just three more years, I’ll do a good job. No point being around for 10 years and doing bad films.”
