PESHAWAR: An Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) was killed while two other policemen were injured on Monday in a brazen attack on a city patrol unit on the Ring Road.

Talking to The Express Tribune a police official said that a vehicle of the newly raised City Patrol Force was attacked by unidentified terrorists near the MMC Hospital.

K-P police law: reform or rhetoric?

“I can confirm the  death of ASI Asmatullah who was in-charge of
the vehicle but was driving it when it came under attack. He died on the spot while two of his subordinates suffered injuries,” said the official, adding that the attackers managed to escape on foot taking advantage of the deserted area.

The City Patrol Force, or City Patrol for short, was raised recently by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police to patrol the city roads independent of the local police stations. They are equipped with latest video cameras, gadgets and arms.

K-P and its adjoining Fata have seen a rise in killings during the last couple of weeks.
