ABBOTTABAD: Three policemen in Mansehra have been suspended by the DIG Hazara for allegedly torturing a man and his driver.

Officials said that Naveed, a resident of village Hamsheeriyan, had filed a complaint with DIG Hazara Saeed Khan Wazir two days ago, accusing constables Waqar, Hifzur Rehman and Mudassar of the City police station in Mansehra for detaining him and his driver at a police post near College Dohraha for a couple of hours in a theft case, police sources said.

Naveed had further alleged that the constables forcibly took him to the police post where they subjected him to third degree torture by stripping him and beating him with bamboo sticks and exposing him to inhuman and degrading punishment by carrying out genital insertion. As a result of the alleged torture, he was hospitalised for a couple of days, he contended.

DIG Wazir subsequently ordered DPO Mansehra Ch Ahsan Saifullah to suspend the three police constables.

When approached for comments DSP Headquarter Zulfiqar Jadoon confirmed that the three officials had been suspended. However, the official denied that the complainant was detained or tortured.

Instead, he said that Naveed and the three constables had some differences which escalated into a brawl near the police post.

Naveed, Jadoon said, had subsequently lodged a complaint against the officers owing to which the DIG suspended the cops.
