NUML convocation: Practical, applied research key to growth, says Rehman

Around 318 students graduate during fourth convocation

There is a need for practical and applied research for growth and development of the country.

This was stated by Minster of State for Federal Education Engr. Balighur Rehman during the fourth convocation of the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) in the capital on Sunday.

Rehman stressed on practical and applied research for growth and development of the country as he congratulated students, their parents and teachers on the successful completion of the respective courses.



The minster reiterated the government’s commitment to support higher education in the country by providing financial grants to develop educational infrastructure. He also promised that the government would facilitate NUML in acquiring 100 acres of land to meet the increasing demand of students and departments.

Later, he conferred degrees to 318 students who had successfully graduated. As many as 28 gold medals were also awareded to top students of different programmes.

NUML Rector Major-General (retired) Ziauddin Najam NUML Director General Brigadier Riaz Ahmed Gondal, registrar, deans, directors, heads of departments and a large number of students along with their parents attended the convocation.

Earlier, Maj Gen Najam highlighted the achievements and contributions made by the varsity in various fields of education, especially oriental and occidental languages. He said the university had developed a first-of-its-kind Writing Resource Center in the country which would promote writing and research activities.

He added that NUML had established its own think thank, composed of former rectors, DGs, deans, directors and senior faculty members.

Under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Maj Gen Najam said NUML had established a center of excellence in Xinjiang province of China to teach English and Urdu to the Chinese people. Further, a regional campus of NUML has been established at Gwadar to teach Chinese language to the natives in view of trade and business through CPEC.

He added that over 50 PhD candidates are expected to complete their degrees by next year.
