LAHORE: The Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (TEPA) of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) will execute a project for widening and improving Main Boulevard, New Garden Town from Kalma Chowk to Canal Bridge through Y-junction.

The project is to be completed in the next three months at a cost of Rs 309,000,000.

TEPA officials said that due to the enormous increase in traffic, the road structure needs improvement and widening of both main carriageways and service roads. As commercial activities along the road have increased more traffic is being generated in the area. “With limited on-street parking facilities, road widening and parking provision needs to be catered for immediately,” DCO Ahad Cheema said.

Salient features of the new project include a three-lane dual carriage way, widening of service roads to six metres including hard shoulders for parking, landscaping, as well as the installation of street lights and traffic signals. The body also directed for immediately carrying out repairs on the Model Town Link Road.

The meeting also endorsed the constitution of a committee for assessment of the cost of land and compensation for structures.
