FAISALABAD: The sacrifice of first martyred Pakistani flying officer, Maryam Mukhtar, was remembered with great honour at an event held at University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Thursday. The event was organised to pay her tribute as a role model for the whole nation. The national hero flying a training mission on an FT-7PG aircraft with Squadron Leader Saqib Abbasi encountered a serious in-flight emergency on November 24 2015 that resulted in an ill-fated accident in Kundian, Mianwali district about 175 kilometres southwest of Islamabad.

On the occasion, a special play ‘Aik Thi Maryam’ was held at the Iqbal Auditorium in which more than 2,000 students participated.

While addressing the participants, MPA Surraya Azeem said women were playing an extra ordinary role in every field of life especially in national defence.

She said, “Maryam is a symbol of achievement for all Pakistani women and the whole nation is committed for the defence of the country.”
