LAHORE: The Lahore High Court sought comments on Wednesday from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) head on a contempt plea against his failure to comply with an earlier order.

The LHC chief justice had directed the HEC chairman to decide within one month a complaint against an assistant professor at the Punjab University accused of plagiarism. The order was never implemented. Petitioner Imran Saeed had claimed the authorities were reluctant to take any action against PU Assistant Professor Zulfiqar Ahmad Bohra. More than two months have passed since the court order but the HEC has not decided the complaint so far.

After hearing initial arguments, the chief justice sought reply from the HEC chairman within two weeks.

The petitioner’s counsel has furnished documentary evidence against the professor, claiming the university was going to promote the assistant professor instead of taking action against him.
