The protesters included teachers and administration staff who boycotted duties and took out a rally from the administration block to the main entrance.
They carried placards inscribed with slogans
of “stop favouritism” and “Go VC go”.
They announced that the strike would continue for an indefinite period. The demonstrators claimed VC Dr Nasser Ali Khan violated the Universities Act by hiring his favoured candidates without making an announcement in the newspaper for vacant posts.
When approached for comments, UoH VC Dr Nasser Ali Khan denied the charges. He added that he committed no wrongdoing in making appointments.
“The hiring was done purely on merit and in line with the rules”, he said. About the delayed promotion of permanent employees, Dr Nasser said such actions need the approval of the syndicate and nobody can take arbitrary decision.
