KARACHI: The Indian Navy arrested 20 fishermen and took away three fishing vessels from Pakistan’s territorial waters near Kajar Creek in the Arabian Sea late Thursday night.

The Indian Navy police, in Pakistan’s waters in the Arabian Sea, arrested the 20 fishermen and seized the three fishing vessels al Rehman, al Kausar and al Badar.

The arrested fishermen have been detained in jails.

Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum Chairman Mohammad Ali Shah said that the Indian Border Security Forces have violated Pakistan’s territorial waters and taken away the fishermen at gunpoint.

He criticized the government for not taking action against the Indian Forces.

Mohammad Ali said that the sea is the bread and butter for the fishermen and the illegal detention of the fishermen is a violation of their rights. He said that 150 fishermen including Pakistani fishermen are present in the detention of Indian jails and more than 300 Indian fishermen are present in Pakistani jails.

Shah urged the Foreign Ministers of both countries to come forward in order to get the fishermen released. He demanded of the government help the bereaved families of the detained fishermen.
