Three FC men killed in TTP-JA blast at funeral in Peshawar

According to SSP Sajjad Khan, five others were injured in the blast

ISLAMABAD: At least three officers of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) were killed and five others injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded during a funeral in Bashirabad area of Peshawar on Tuesday.

"Three officials were killed and three others were injured in the blast," SSP Operations Sajjad Khan told The Express Tribune. The IED, targetting an FC convoy was planted on the road, he said.



Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) splinter group Jamaatul Ahrar claimed responsibility for the attack in an email sent to the media.

The deceased have been identified as Hanif Jamal, Yasirullah and Khalid. According to reports, FC officials, along with several others were attending funeral prayers of the press club's former president's mother.

Khan said the truck had FC personnel on-board who were helping the city police during chehlum.

“Contrary to earlier reports, these FC officials were not part of any convoy but had actually been provided to assist police during Muharram chehlum,” he added.



DSP Faqirabad Tahir Dawar claimed that the IED weighed one kilogram. "The injured and dead have been shifted to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH)," Dawar added.

“Three FC officials were killed and four injured. One civilian was also injured in the attack." Heavy contingent of police arrived at the site and cordoned the area for further investigation.
