Theatre performances: LUMS Dramafest ’16 ends

Three-day event attracts 4,000 audience members

LAHORE: Theatre lovers gathered on Sunday to witness the final day of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) annual drama festival featuring performances by 16 student teams.

The festival, PEL Dramafest 2016 hosted by LUMS Dramaline, is an annual competition in which students from all over the country come to compete against one another and performs live in front of a crowd of students and judges.

This year, teams from several top universities gave dramatic performances ranging from comedy to exploring serious social topics.

On the festival’s final day, eight plays were staged. The students of FAST staged a play which revolved around the life of a writer. The writer has been working on a play for 14 years and was so engrossed in the story that he saw its characters around him. The mystery surrounding the love interest of the writer, who was portrayed as the driving force of the play, enthralled the audience.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Muhammad Raza Ali, a member of the organising team, said that Dramafest was the country’s largest national dramatics competition, designed to provide a platform to youth for showcasing their theatrical capabilities.

“We are an entertainment society that has successfully advanced theatre and artistic consciousness within the community. We have been producing quality theatre for 28 years and thus have built a reputation for putting up successful events year after year,” he said.

The festival hosted over 4,000 audience members during the three days of performances.
