Less than a month after Deadpool director Tim Miller surprisingly left the sequel over creative differences, 20th Century Fox has found his replacement. David Leitch – who along with Chad Stahelski directed the 2014 cult classic John Wick – has signed on to direct the highly-anticipated reboot, reported Variety.

It isn’t known if production will still begin in early 2017, as previously rumoured, or when the film will be released, but those announcements may be coming soon now that a director is on board. Letich beat out a number of top contenders to direct this superhero sequel, including Drew Goddard and Magnus Martens. Leitch will make his solo directing debut with The Coldest City, starring Charlize Theron, which will hit theaters next year.

Shortly after Miller’s exit, reports surfaced that the director disagreed with actor Ryan Reynolds on the casting of Cable. During the post-credit scene of Deadpool, the Merc With the Mouth reveals that Cable, the iconic X-Force leader from the Marvel Comics, will be featured in Deadpool 2. Miller reportedly wanted to cast Bloodline star Kyle Chandler as Cable, which Reynolds disagreed with. While Cable has not been cast yet, there was talk that the sequel was getting close to casting another key role before Miller left.

At the same time, Fox and the producers are also putting into motion Deadpool 3 and will be searching for a separate film-maker to tackle that instalment.
