Indian channel ban

Letter November 19, 2016
I do not support the ban on Indian channels

MUMBAI: The one-day ban on an Indian channel attracted a lot of criticism. There were points and counterpoints flying across India regarding this issue. To be frank, I find no proper reasons behind the ban. Besides, the recent manhandling of renowned journalists in Mumbai has sent shockwaves.

Personally and professionally, I respect the entire conglomerate of the media because newspapers and television channels, both Tamil and English, have played a crucial role in my broadening my perspectives right from my school years. As a result, my letters to English newspapers in Pakistan on the India-Pakistan relationship attempt to send positive vibes and further understanding between people of the two countries. I initially found reports about the India-Pakistan relationship disturbing and convoluted. It is the responsibility of the powers that be to always show high respect for the media and media persons, even if it means a difficult event. Ergo, I do not support the ban on the Indian channel announced earlier this month.
