Pirwadhai: a hub of child abuse

According to psychologists, victims of such abuse suffer from panic attacks, anxiety and nightmares

ISLAMABAD: The poor victims of the barbarianism in Pirwadhai are little boys aged between eight and 14 years old. They are owned properties of the ‘bhais’ of this area. Seen selling colouring books and newspapers during the day, these innocent children sell their childhoods away during the nights for as cheap as Rs250.

The boys stand in dark corners of the area and are scrutinised and chosen like items on a menu by individuals, who are then rented out hotels and rooms in secluded areas in the vicinity owned by these so-called ‘bhais’. The fact that there is a police station and a check post nearby and they fail to be of any use in protecting these boys is saddening. The police officers standing at the check posts decide to turn their faces away from this bitter reality, which is the fall of the youth of Pakistan.

These poor souls learn the reality of life way too early at the ages that they should be playing around the streets. According to psychologists, victims of such abuse suffer from panic attacks, anxiety, nightmares, fear, sleeping problems, irritability, sudden outbursts of anger and display a reaction to being touched suddenly. Somebody needs to come to their rescue.
