KARACHI: Pakistan’s Nooh Dastagir Butt finished fourth at the Asian Weightlifting Youth and Junior Championship in Tokyo yesterday.

The 18-year-old was competing in the +105kg event and finished fourth, lifting 160kg in snatch and 201kg in clean and jerk.

Nooh Dastagir all Butt strikes gold

Nooh had won a silver medal at the Common-wealth Championships last month and was expected to claim gold in Tokyo. But the fact that he did not, left Pakistan Weightlifting Federation Vice-President Rashed Malik disappointed.

“It was a disappointing day for all of us,” Rashed told The Express Tribune. “Nooh was a major contender in the event, but he just failed to lift the same amount of weight that he did at the Commonwealth Championships.”

More medals expected from trio

Rashed, however, remains hopeful the athlete will bounce back.
