Man impersonating intelligence officer held

Suspect remanded into police custody for two days

ISLAMABAD: Police have arrested a man who allegedly abducted two people from Sector G-8 last month while posing as an intelligence officer.

The suspect was remanded into police custody for two days by a magistrate on Saturday.

Karachi Company police said Safiullah allegedly asked a couple to leave their house in Sector G-8 and accompany him to the Peerwadhai area in Rawalpindi after telling them he was an officer with the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and that he needed to verify some details.



Police said the couple somehow managed to escape and lodged a complaint at the station. While the incident took place on the night of October 21, police only managed to apprehend him on Friday.

They subsequently booked him for kidnapping and impersonation and presented him before a judicial magistrate on Saturday. He was remanded into police custody for two days.

This is not an isolated case.

Just two days ago, on November 10, Noon police had arrested a man who had deprived a group of people Rs200,000 while posing as an army officer.

Police said a group of people were visiting Islamabad from Okara were sitting at a roadside eatery along the Kashmir Highway when a man walked up to them and told them that they had parked their car in a restricted area and that they had to accompany him to meet his superior officers.

He then accompanied the group of three to four people and searched their pockets in the car.

“He collected all the money the group had with them. When they reached EME College, he sent one of them to get photocopies of their CNICs and took another passenger with him across the road. While crossing the road, he told the man accompanying him to return to the car and fetch CNICs of all the passengers. As the man went back, the fraudster vanished,” a police officer said.



However, police managed to trace and arrest the suspect on November 10. He is currently in Adiala Jail on judicial remand.

Despite repeated attempts to contact, there was no response from Inter-Services Public Relations.
